Building a ferry complex at Kuryk port (Karakiya district) will allow transshipment of goods to Caspian countries and further without discharging it from cars. 500 advanced jobs will be established during construction.
There will be a permanent staff of 250 people. Over 32 billion tenge of investments will be spent for construction. The transshipment capacity will be 4 million tons of ferry cargos per year.
The ferry complex construction has been started by Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Askar Mamin – the President of “Kazakhstan Temir zholy” NC” JSC and Alim Aidarbayev, the akim of Mangystau Region.
According to Alik Aidarbayev, the ferry complex is aimed to transship consumer goods, grain, oil products, liquefied petroleum gas, fertilizers, chemicals, etc.
“The advantages of the coastal stripe near Kuryk village include suitable climate conditions (the bay does not freeze), promising wind rose, sufficient depth, distance from the city, probability of extending production facilities, availability of free space for construction, and wide range of products”, the akim of Mangystau Region noted.
Mikhail Yalbachev, the President of JSC NC “Aktau International Sea Commercial Port” highlighted that the operational terminal of Aktau has reached the limit of its working capacities. The Kuryk port ferry complex will allow to increase region’s potential and the prospects of its cooperation with neighboring states.
— “After commissioning the Kuryk port ferry complex, we’ll be able to cooperate with the port of Baku which is now ready to receive large cargos. The Iran party has also expressed a wish to improve its ferry transportation. We also consider cooperation possibilities in this area”, Mikhail Yalbachev said.
Bakytzhan Sagintayev noted that Iran, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan invest large funds into development of Caspian reservoir ports.
“All the ports of Caspian Basin are currently being upgraded. The project is therefore extremely in time”, the First Deputy of the Kazakhstan Prime Minister noted.
The cargos necessary for Kuryk port construction shall be transported via Borzhakty-Ersai railway line being built since October 1, 2014. As it was noticed at the meeting, the line will be an essential infrastructural unit to support offshore oil operations in the future.
The construction of Kuryk ferry complex is expected to be finished in December 2016.
